Let the Pedometer Games Begin!!!

Last nights practice was AWESOME!!! As Lorraine Cunningham mentioned: "What a gorgeous night to be out last night; I would never have noticed all those stars if I had been in my house. It was just what I needed." As we were all practicing in a beautiful star filled night, team members Lora Thomas and Corina Helfrich were in the Caribbean swabbing the decks, oops, I mean walking the decks getting their practice on board a ship!

Each one of you is getting stronger by the day! If you noticed we pushed the pace a little, this is to create new muscles memories that will make you stronger. If you're a bit sore today don't be alarmed - - be happy! Friday is a rest day in our schedule for a reason! Drink LOTS of water or herbal teas today!!! Thanks to Jeannie McLam for stepping up and doing the first "Go Back" challenge! Come to practice and you will learn what "go backs" are!

I was thrilled to see all your interest in the pedometer. It has truly made a difference in my fitness goals. As I mentioned, mine broke and I haven't had one for about a month. In that month my weight loss slowed way down, even with doing my workouts three times a week. Here's the link to the pedometer that I use, and "re-bought", a wise woman once said: "Take it off your trousers before putting it through the wash!"

On your first day of wearing your pedometer go about your normal day and see how many steps you took that day. Let's say you moved 3000 steps, the next day add 20% more steps so you would be walking 3600 steps, working up to 5000 steps a day! They say the "golden" number for health is 10,000 steps - - we will tackle that goal in the future!

Track your totals daily!

Acknowledgements for:
* 35,000 steps in a week.
* 10,000 steps or more in a day.
* Most interesting stories on how you got your steps in!

Prizes for:

* Reaching 50,000 steps
* Reaching 100,000 steps

As we are fundraising for our cause to help girls and women in Kenya, here is a humbling statistic. If you are in a household that earns $36,000 or more, in the world economy you are the top 1%. It kind of took my breath away! Every dollar were raising is an important dollar and will go a long ways for a girl and family in need through BEADS!

This is the soup bar that I'm usually a buzz about! Thanks to Erica Wolf, (she's at the far right in orange) for reminding me that we have our first Saturday practice this weekend! It's Saturday January 28th at Lowell Riverfront Park and its a 60 minute practice plan to meet at 9:30am in the parking lot. Anyone that would like to car pool, meet at our house at 8:45am. Here's a little description of our walk:

With plenty of parking, the Lowell Riverfront Park puts walkers, hikers and bikers in the center of the Lowell Riverfront Trail. This 1.75-mile, multi-use trail features a 10-foot-wide paved path that includes views of Mt. Baker, Rainier and the Cascades, as well as numerous wildlife habitats. The trail head is located just off Lenora Street.

And here's directions:

From the north, take I-5 exit 192 (41st St.).
Turn left onto 41st St. Proceed to the first
traffic light and turn right onto S. 3rd Ave.
Continue approximately 14 blocks to the stop

Some of you may have noticed that your checks haven't been cashed yet! There is a reason, Rod and I are off for a very fine vacation! :-) Actually its because the bank told us we needed to get a business license. My reaction was "WHAT"? And I said, "Were just a bunch people that want to do a little good in the world, and don't want the complications of a business." In the end our hero at the bank looked up a few things and suggested that we make ourselves a "club"! So Rod and I don't have to open a business now, yet we did have to apply to the state for a Club Tax ID number. With this little glitch your first $100.00 will be made out to: BFE Races and your last $200.00 will be made out to "BEADS for Education". If you have already made out your check to BFE Races, we will get it worked out!

Hooray to Pat Hamburg, Mary Wahl, and JR Wahl (or Alphabet as I like to call him), for getting in there first $100.00

Keep up all the good work! See you Saturday in the light of day! Hope we recognize each other! LOL!
